The Town of Farmville has its roots in agriculture, but has grown and moved with the times. It is an area rich in tradition, boasting many homes and businesses that are on the National Register of Historic Places. But it also is a thriving community that has evolved and prospered with the rapid growth of the Pitt County region. Today, Farmville has about 4,500 citizens.

Ideally located on the Raleigh-Greenville Corridor, Farmville is centrally located between several mid-size cities: Greenville, Wilson, Kinston, Goldsboro, and Rocky Mount. Situated in western Pitt County in the Coastal Plain region of North Carolina, the residents and businesses of Farmville enjoy close proximity to I-95 and Raleigh. The community also is within two hours of three deep water ports. Farmville is within 20 minutes of the Pitt-Greenville Airport and approximately 60 minutes from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Farmville EDC was incorporated in 1956 and is a private, non-profit membership corporation, 501(c)6. The Board of Directors are members of the organization and represent business, industry and civic organizations. The EDC manages economic development for the Town of Farmville under a contract established in 2007.
